Message from the Director

Welcome to the MoCC.

In December 2013 the world’s first museum of climate change was opened at The Chinese University of Hong Kong during its 50th anniversary. The MoCC, established with a generous donation from the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, broke new ground. It plays a vital role in the fulfilment of CUHK’s social responsibility and vision in building a sustainable future for Hong Kong through education, research and community engagement.

The MoCC curates exhibitions to communicate climate crisis, showcases innovative research and solutions to meet sustainability challenges, publicizes the community’s initiatives to promote sustainable development, and encourages climate-friendly action at the individual level. Global partnerships drawn upon proven local and international strengths play an important part in the MoCC’s delivery of sustainability education. Our local strengths are complemented with international expertise, through theme-based exhibitions and events using a variety of creative media and a combination of scientific and artistic approaches. Since its inception, the MoCC has hosted over 1.6 million exhibition visitors and reached out to millions of members of the public through its off-site educational activities and promotional efforts.

Museums educate people. People change the world. At the MoCC, we will continue to actively respond to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 13, Climate Action. Perhaps surprisingly given the current situation, we are cautiously optimistic that global warming will be reversed at the eleventh hour.

Let us put our reflection into action.
